Palm Beach County pays $3.6 million after blaming third graders who were molested by teacher.

According to the Sun Sentinel, the incident took place in 2005 when four girls, all in the third grade, accused their teacher, Blake Sinrod, of fondling them in the classroom at Coral Sunset Elementary.
The newspaper reports that court documents show that when the girls’ families sued the district, the district responded that the girls were “old enough to appreciate the consequences of their actions” when they did what their teacher told them to do.

On September 13, 2010, appellant filed a complaint against the Palm Beach County School Board and School Board employee, Blake Sinrod. On October 25, 2010, an amended complaint against the same was filed. The amended complaint alleged that Sinrod, a second-grade teacher in Palm Beach County, sexually assaulted and molested his student, sevenyear- old Jane Doe, while in his role as a School Board employee. The incident occurred in May of 2003. Doe’s father reported the incident to the school’s vice principal the next day and the administrator allegedly did not believe Doe and refused to investigate the allegations. The vice principal also would not transfer Doe to another class and threatened to call the truancy officer if Doe did not attend the class.

In her amended complaint, Doe claimed that the vice principal of the school acted with deliberate indifference in failing a n d refusing to investigate the complaint a n d that her parents were left with no alternative other than to remove her from the school and relocate to another school district. As a result, Doe alleged emotional injury. Doe argued that she complied with the notice requirements of section 768.28, Florida Statutes, b y noticing the School Board a n d th e Florida Department of Financial Services of their claims on January 29, 2010.

All of the abuses of the school district, are supported by the local courts, and it's county contracted "experts".



Both women said they were angered by revelations last week that the county school board had argued in court filings that the victims were partly to blame for their injuries.

After that legal argument was revealed in newspaper stories last week, School Board members lambasted their own legal team Wednesday evening before approving the settlement.

“This shouldn’t be something that someone uses against victims,” said the second victim. “It makes me baffled and angry that they would say something like that.”

Added the first victim: “It’s clearly their responsibility, and for them to use that defense is horrific.”

Both women said they receive little support from their school after their allegations initiated the criminal investigation against Sinrod.

“I feel like they should have offered us some sort of help, like therapy or something,” the second victim said. “I feel like (school officials) didn’t care about our feelings or what we were going through. They just cared about the school.”
